Jotape: from concrete to the sacred

Jotape hails from the southern part of the American continent. Raised in the Catholic faith within a modest, urban family, he grew up disconnected from indigenous or deeply rooted spiritual traditions.

His education took place in the city—an environment he now views as a machine that alienates the spirit. This perspective led him to define himself as an agnostic explorer and a craftsman of thought.

At the age of 25, Jotape left his career in architecture after discovering in muralism and urban painting a space of profound spiritual significance. The images he creates are deeply connected to themes of death, spirituality, and the mysticism of life and nature. His work is primarily figurative, where the mystical and the spiritual intertwine with emotion, memory, and critique.

Jotape believes that art should strive to reactivate a communal dimension rooted in the intimate—to rediscover the ritual of living together in harmony with our ecosystem, and to offer new visions capable of reconnecting us to life itself.
